From its humble beginnings as the Art Center in La Jolla, the museum has evolved to become a hub for contemporary creativity. MCASD’s collection includes over 4,700 works spanning from the 1950s and onwards. MCASD is committed to collecting works by promising emerging talents, spotlighting mid-career artists, and celebrating major figures in international contemporary art.
